STORIES FROM OUR FAMILIES

My son got his SPIO vest today and as soon as I put it on him he says "this feels fantastic"...after some adjustments and just watching him, his whole body just seemed to come together. He walked the balance beam (one foot in front of the other) for the first time & without wobbling, his jumping was significantly better - no needing to hold on while on trampoline and not off balance, he even stood on one foot (both sides) with minimal wobbling...I am talking HUGE things for him!!!!!!! I was holding back tears. He wore it right up until bedtime and asked to wear it again tomorrow...and to PT next week. I have to say it even slowed him down when he was "excited" speaking...he tends to stutter in those moments, and wasn't.

I would like to thank you for the glove you sent us but I mainly want to thank you for your wonderful SPIO.  In the email below my husband [Mark] describes very well Sophia's progress and we are very much pleased with it.  We know for a fact that more progress is on the way with this great suit.

I will be in touch with you to order another SPIO for Sophia as a spare one because we believe in this product.

Sincerely,

Sihem

Hi, I just wanted to drop you an email to describe my daughter, Sophia [who has Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome], progress since she received her SPIO suit.  I have seen significant changes in Sophia's ability to sit as well as grasp objects.  She has gone from being shaky while sitting unassisted and grabbing/holding objects to being much better at sitting as well as being able to control her hands much better.  The difference is quite noticeable and we plan on her wearing the suit as much as possible.  Once out of the suit, I have noticed that she seems to be able to sit more confidently and reach for and grasp objects.  It appears the effect of the suit carries on even after she is out of it.

We are very pleased with the suit and are quite impressed with it.  Additionally the quality and construction are first-rate.  So far all seems are holding up well and the suit is wearing well.

Sincerely,

Mark L.

I am blown away... My son is almost 3 and was just diagnosed with a Sensory Processing Disorder. He has never been calm, never sat still, doesn't sleep, struggles with speech, hardly eats, and makes constant noises to receive sensory input.  I ordered the SPIO shirt and pants that his OT suggested on Friday morning. It arrived today, Monday afternoon, and I put it on him immediately.

My son was a completely different person!!!

He attempted to communicate with me through language, he was calm and comfortable in his own skin, and he walked when he got tired instead of running compulsively non-stop. He even sought me out for comfort and to cuddle when he got tired. Even as an infant he did not like physical touch. I cannot believe how happy he is!  He wouldn't take it off for bedtime and slept through the night for one of the first times in months. Don’t hesitate to get SPIO - SpioWorks.com has the best prices I could find!

I am Mom to 5 1/2 year old twins. My son has high functioning autism and my daughter has sensory processing disorders. Both have vestibular and proprioceptic issues that impact their gross and fine motor skills, attention, body awareness, and activity levels among other things. Both are constantly in motion.

When the kids were three, our occupational therapist suggested that I try SPIO. He was thinking especially for my son, however, I purchased a SPIO for both children. The results with my son were noticeable, but the change with my daughter was dramatic and instantaneous. It was simply amazing. This little girl who could not stay still enough to sit in a chair (to the point that she frequently fell out of chairs within minutes) was immediately still and able to attend to classroom activities.

What happened over the next few months was quite dramatic. She had been given a standard assessment measuring her pre-school readiness just a month before getting the suit. Three months later she was administered the same test, the results showed that she had progressed more than 9 months in development in that three month span. With SPIO, her fine motor skills increased as did her ability to attend, follow directions, apply her imagination to drawing, and learn new concepts.

It was truly the key to unlocking a major development spurt for her.

Thank you for making such wonderful products.

My 2 year old daughter who has Down syndrome just got her Spio unitard about a month ago.  It is a miracle!  She walks so much better, she talks better, I think she even behaves better. Our ST, PT. OT, DT ALL think she is doing betteras a result of SPIO. We wear it all day, every day and I've been recommending it to all my friends and therapists.

Thank you so much for this marvelous product. If you'd like a photo of my darling in her SPIO, let me know!

My son calms instantly (almost falling asleep) when I put on his SPIO pants and shirt. He then modulates up to a more tuned in level.  He doesn't do as much high pitch squealing when he is wearing his SPIO, even when he is in an over stimulating situation.  We are very pleased.

My daughter has more coordination and she loves to wear her SPIO.  She thinks she is a superhero!  Do they make a SPIO cape?

I’ve observed that my son becomes more functional with the SPIO.  Once he's been out of the SPIO for a few hours, he starts getting spasms in his lower back and sciatic pain. John has been treated by a chiropractor since before one year of age.  She has seen a huge improvement in his tone and positioning issues with the addition of the SPIO. It is so much easier to adjust his back.

It wasn't until we started with the SPIO, that for the first time, he was able to open his thighs for diaper changing.

I've seen improvements in the length of time he can focus.  He spends 30 minutes with his OT sitting in a sideless chair and is able to continue focusing on fine motor tasks.  Something he couldn't do before.  He also uses a sideless chair for nonfood tasks at the table, and is able to stay on the chair without losing his balance.  John is now running in the yard.

I just wanted to let you know the super-suit is working out great.

Yeah for SPIO!

At first the differences with my grandson when wearing SPIO were very minor.   Now they are major.  He is touching food he has never touched before.  He hasn't eaten anything really new, but I'm not expecting him to go from not eating to eating overnight.  SPIO seems to be taking the sensory issue out of it. Below is a list of things that I noticed after starting wearing SPIO.

Before SPIO, my autistic son had trouble focusing and wouldn't participate in school due to his sensory challenges.  Our therapist recommended a SPIO shirt and pants.   Since then, we have noticed his self esteem has improved and his teacher has noticed he has improved focus and pays more attention in class.  He enjoys wearing the SPIO so much that he took it out of a pile of laundry and brought it to me because he wanted to wear it. He will stand in front of the mirror and just look at himself with his SPIO on. He is also one of those kids that it is difficult to keep clothes on.   He leaves the SPIO on.   It's amazing!

My daughter loves her SPIO shirt and pants!  She wakes up in the morning asking if she can wear her "costume" today.  Her walking is better, her stairs are better, even her thumb on her affected hand is much better with the glove.

The first time [Tim] wore his SPIO at school, his education assistant said he didn’t want to do any work, but sat and looked at everything in the room as if he’d never been there before.  I am a grandmother raising a grandchild and I have no training in therapy or medical background, but I do know that SPIO helps him know where he is, freeing his energy to pay attention to life.

Four weeks after we had Maria fit for a vest, we noticed she had more muscle control all over her body. She is trying to walk forward now not just backwards like she used to before her SPIO, and she seems to focus more with her eyes. She has more control over her mouth where before it was open all the time and we have noticed she is eating better. The SPIO vest is not too warm for Maria and she will wear it all day.  She likes wearing it!

Thank you for making the shorts, they help me with my knees. They help me feel where my body parts are. They help my hip because my right hip pops out a little.

Malachi was born premature, with multiple drugs in his system.  He was three months old when we adopted him and we started him in therapy right away.  He said no to everything, was oversensitive, constantly made odd sounds, and could not stop moving (ever) - jumping, climbing, kicking.  At age three, Malachi was tested with SID and that's when we learned about SPIO.

He immediately turned into a different child!  Everyone who knows him noticed the difference immediately.  I sent him to school without his SPIO once, and when I picked him up, his teacher asked, "Where is his [SPIO]?”  After today I don't know how we functioned without it!"  SPIO helps calm him, he is happier, and is more compliant. The change is so immediate every time, that Malachi’s 13 year old brother shakes his head and says, "That is so weird.”

As far as we are concerned, the SPIO has changed our lives!

Aaron is a six year old with autism, and he loves his SPIO (aka his Batman Suit)!  As soon as he puts on the pants and shirt he calms down and becomes more focused.  His therapist has said that he is more engaged, has better eye contact, and concentrates better with it on.  One of the assistants at school said he was a different kid with it on, and I got a note home asking if it was lost because he hadn't worn it for a couple of days.  I would have never thought that something like this would have made such a difference.  You have to see it to believe it!  Thanks so much!
